Possum Box Made to National Parks Specifications

This professionally made nest box comes flat packed and ready to be assembled. The edges have been recessed and slot together neatly and easily. You will need a cross-head screwdriver to fix the box together with the provided zinc plated screws. This nest box comes uncoated. You can choose to oil, lacquer or paint it yourself or for an additional $10 we will paint it with 2 coats of high quality decking oil for you. The internal front wall has a sawn ladder to assist critters exiting the box and it has an external ladder for easy access to the entrance. The roof opens for access to the interior for cleaning or maintenance. A latch is fitted to the roof to prevent intrusion by predators and to stop it from blowing open. Wood shavings are included to line the base for added comfort and warmth. Treated pine cleats are fitted to the back of the box to keep it away from the tree. The box is designed to be installed with a provided piece of wire which fits through two pre-drilled holes in the side of the box and then around the tree. The box comes in two designs depending on whether you are trying to house a ringtail or a Brushtail possum. Full installation, maintenance and feral squatter management instructions are provided.

The difference between the Ringtail and Brushtail nest box

The Ringtail and Brushtail possum boxes are the same size, the only difference is the entrance hole with the Brushtail model having a larger entrance. If you are not certain what type of possum you have it would be safer to install the Brushtail model as both possums will happily live in this box. If you have both Brushtails and Ringtails then there will be competition for the box and the larger Brushtail possum will probably evict the smaller Ringtail possum. The smaller entrance hole will restrict the Brushtail from entering the Ringtail nest box.

It will also restrict predators such as cats from entering the box.

How to install the nest box

The nest box can be installed as illustrated above by placing the supplied wire through the pre drilled holes in the side of the box and around the tree. We would recommend that you thread the wire through an old piece of garden hose to protect the tree from the wire damaging it.
